    Membrane Technology for N2 Generation

A nitrogen generator membrane works by passing compressed air through a bundle of hollow fibers made of a semi-permeable material, where the smaller oxygen molecules readily pass through the membrane walls, allowing the larger nitrogen molecules to remain inside the fibers and be collected as pure nitrogen gas at the outlet, essentially separating the gases based on their different permeation rates through the membrane; this process is called “permeation.”

Key points about a nitrogen generator membrane

    Hollow fibers:

The membrane consists of thousands of tiny hollow fibers that act as the separation medium.

    Selective permeability:

The membrane is designed to allow certain gases (like oxygen and water vapor) to pass through more easily than others (like nitrogen), enabling the separation.

    Compressed air input:

Dry, clean compressed air is fed into the membrane module where it flows through the hollow fibers.

    Permeation process:

As the air passes through the fibers, oxygen and other impurities permeate through the membrane walls and are vented out, leaving the nitrogen to flow through the fibers and out as the final product.

    Benefits of membrane nitrogen generators:

    Compact and simple design:

Membrane generators are relatively small and have minimal moving parts, making them easy to operate and maintain.
